Ticket Giveaway: Shakespeare's King John at Carolina Cinemas on 4/8/2015

Our friends at Fathom Events bring you Shakespeare's King John, Directed by Tim Carroll. If you make your move quickly, you can ask about free tickets when you say you love AshevilleFM at Orbit DVD!

More about the event from FathomEvents.com:

When the rule of a hedonistic and mercurial king is questioned, rebellion, assassination and excommunication ensue, culminating in the chilling attempt to commit an atrocity against a child, whose mother’s anguished grief cannot atone for her blinkered ambitions for her son.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Shakespeare’s King John, with commanding performances by Tom McCamus, Seana McKenna, Graham Abbey and Patricia Collins, directed by Tim Carroll, whose recent Shakespeare productions took Broadway by storm. Here’s what the critics are saying:

• “Deliciously contemporary.” J. Kelly Nestruck, The Globe and Mail • “Tom McCamus plays King John, rivetingly, as a neurotic narcissist. It’s a daring performance.” Robert Cushman, National Post • “This sublime King John has a remarkable intimacy, crystallized by the formidable actor Graham Abbey, whose relationship with the audience becomes one of the closest I've ever seen in a Shakespearean drama.” Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune • “The action is riveting, the political machinations delicious and all the performers, royal or otherwise, take great delight in the parts they’re playing.” Richard Ouzounian, Toronto Star

Don't miss the Stratford Festival's theatrical sensation on the big screen for a special one-night event, April 8 only!

{Re}HAPPENING 2015

AshevilleFM is an official sponsor of the {Re}HAPPENING!

Tickets are on sale now for the {Re}HAPPENING April 4, 2015 MARCH 23, 2015 ASHEVILLE, NC – The Media Arts Project (MAP) and the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) announce that tickets are now on sale for the sixth annual {Re}HAPPENING, taking place on Saturday, April 4th from 3pm to 10pm on the grounds of the former Black Mountain College at Lake Eden, now Camp Rockmont. The event is a fundraiser for both organizations. The {Re}HAPPENING re-imagines Black Mountain College’s tradition of Saturday night parties and performances, and pays tribute to the innovative artists of the legendary Black Mountain College. The event launches a contemporary platform for more than 50 artists, performers and patrons to experience adventurous art and creativity in the present day. The event has two ticket levels available -- General Admission for $20 ($18 for BMCM+AC members) which includes two drink tickets and access to all art installations and performances between 3pm and 10pm. An $85 dinner ticket ($75 for BMCM+AC members) enables patrons additional entry to the cocktail reception (5:30-6:30pm) and small plates feast-style dinner p.m. (6:30 – 7:30pm.) More details about the dinner below. Children under 12 are welcome to attend for the reduced ticket price of $10 (available only through BMCM+AC).

HIGHLIGHTS AND NEW FEATURES OF THE {Re}HAPPENING 2015 PROGRAM Dinner

Dinner tickets to the {Re}HAPPENING include a social hour from 5:30-6:30pm for dinner guests, with refreshments by sponsors such as, Biltmore Winery, Mutual Distribution, Wedge Brewing Co., and Highland Brewing which has crafted a black IPA specifically for {Re}HAPPENING called Abstract Black. Elliot Moss will prepare an appetizer and MG Road will craft a specialty drink for the cocktail hour. At 6:30 pm, the small plates reception-style feast will begin in the historic Lake Eden Dining Hall, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Chall Gray. Dinner sponsor Black-Eyed Susan Catering has designed a menu of Southern dishes incorporating local, seasonal ingredients provided by sponsors Hickory Nut Gap Farms, Sunburst Trout Farms, and Earth Fare. French Broad Chocolate Lounge and Short Street Cakes will be the main dessert sponsors. The dinner is a significant component in the evening, fostering a sense of community and shared experience that informs the rest of the evening.

Extended Daylight Hours: This year {Re}HAPPENING begins at 3pm to enable more visitors during the daylight hours. Guests can roam the scenic grounds of Camp Rockmont, experiencing art, artists’ presentations and performances during the afternoon and into the evening. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and take advantage of the on-site food vendors, Gypsy Queen Cuisine and Vortex Doughnuts. Children under 12 are welcome to attend for the reduced ticket price of $10 (available only through BMCM+AC). Odyssey In partnership with Moog Music Inc., the {Re}HAPPENING is collaborating with Odyssey Community School on a special project for the event: an improved event navigation/lighting element designed and installed by students in Odyssey’s Social Design class. We intend for this collaboration to be one of many future educational partnerships with local schools, which will provide students with hands-on design and technology experience, and exposure to the limitless creativity that skillset can engender.

John Cage Room: Moog Music Inc. is also sponsoring the “John Cage Room,” a venue within the {Re}HAPPENING dedicated to performances by local and national experimental musicians influenced by the music of legendary composer and Black Mountain College faculty member John Cage. The evening’s lineup includes Grammy- nominated musician Aron Kallay (http://aronkallay.com/); Head of the NY Theremin Society Dorit Chrysler (http://www.doritchrysler.com/toc.html); Canadian composer, musician, and artist Gordan Monahan (http://www.gordonmonahan.com/pages/gord_bio.html); and Asheville-based musicians, Elisa Faires and Meg Mulhearn. He will be joined by faculty and students from The University of Maine where he currently teaches. Highlighted Artists A diverse line-up of 25 projects by local, regional and national artists will be presented throughout the grounds of Lake Eden. Highlights include: • “Post Piano Aeolian Harp” Asheville team, Michael Luchtan and Kehren Barbour will arrange a decontrusted piano with strings extending over Lake Eden to vibrate in the wind. • “Rocket Launch” A mapped projection onto trees by Tennessee artists McLean Fahnestock and Michael Dickins. • “Caryatid“ A multi media dance performace by Asheville artists Adam Larsen and Janice Lancaster Larsen. • “Lighthammer “ an interactive lightsmithing camera invented by RISD faculty member, Andrew Goodman. • “A Step Into the Elements” This non-traditional version of a photo booth, produced by local artists Amanda Ray Danko, Misha Schmiedecke and Emily Wooton invites visitors to costume themselves in elaborate garb representing elements found in nature. •“Nowhere Radio” David Sanchez Burr of Las Vegas, Nevada presents his interactive sound sculpture complete with microphones and an FM Transmittor.
