The first installment of a Words to Live By miniseries: A picture is worth a 1000 words. Each installment seeks to paint a picture of its subject exclusively through sound. This week: Istanbul.
Based on my time their from 2013-2015, this soundscape hits on orientalist themes as well as hand recorded street sounds of merchants and buskers. Songs featured are ones I heard frequently in the Spring of 2014, and political campaigns/protests of Recep Tayip Erdogan’s prime minister re-election and soon following presidential campaign that spring. How many sounds are really featured? 1000. . . . more or less.
Be sure to listen Sunday, June 26th, noon- 1pm on 103.3 FM.
