What an epic weekend! So glad I didn’t miss out on this year’s FYF Fest, but as I get older and older, I find that music festivals are a bit harder to deal with. I couldn’t miss out on the decade long return of the Queen, Missy Elliott. Not to mention Frank Ocean’s US debut of the tour behind Blonde. Built to Spill performing Keep It Like A Secret and Blonde Redhead performing Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons. And the reunion (and rantings of Tim Kinsella) of Cap’n Jazz. I don’t know if they’ll top this year, but if they do, I’ll have the hard decision of figuring out if I want to go through it all again. I say this every year, but I may have to do VIP if I go to another festival. Anyways, here’s some awesome music:

[Reunited and It Feels So Good]Cults – Offering
Excited about this reunion! The first time I saw Cults was actually at 2010’s FYF Fest. They opened their set with the theme to Twin Peaks and it blew my mind. Their self-titled is still one of my favorite records. It’s always great to throw on in the summer. But after the break up of the between then couple Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin, it was no surprise when the band went on a bit of a hiatus. Last year we saw Madeline and Richie James Follin start their Brother Sister duo, Follin. But Cults released via Instagram a teaser for their new album, and I am very stoked on it! While they will be touring behind it, they miss Asheville as of now but will have shows in Carborro 11/18 and Atlanta 11/19. Offering is out Oct 6th.
[Look Out For]The Mynabirds – Be Here Now
A huge thank you again to Laura Burhenn of the Mynabirds! I had the pleasure of meeting her at Amoeba Hollywood when she did a show and signing for the release of Lovers Know. She was super awesome and friendly then, and she still is now! Some fans might know her as one-half of the D.C. duo Georgie James. After watching her TEDx talk from 2013, I could tell that the new album was sure to be powerful and politically charged. She does a wonderful interview with Billboard about it. After finding it hard to pick and choose only a few specific quotes, I decided you should just go and read it all yourself here. It’s worth your time! Be Here Now is out via Saddle Creek Records Aug 25th.
[The Breaks]Anoraak – Figure

I can’t remember when I first heard this song, but I remember I was hooked and had to dive deeper into his work. Figure is sort of the perfect summer vibes album, and a great album to play after one is looking to decompress from a music festival (hint hint). A must listen to fans of electro or synthpop music. If the music wasn’t so damn upbeat and dancey, I could easily see it part of the re-score into the Drive soundtrack. Anyone remember that? Figure was released in 2016.
Only 3 write-ups? Yes I am very tired.
