Another Tuesday means another Alpenglow. I fan-boyed about Frank Ocean, and I fear I will do it again. I’ve been spending my summer at a ton of live music, and I am super excited to announce that I will be going to Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh! Also, apologies for mispronouncing the name of the song Condemnation. Anyways, here is the show:
[LOOK OUT FOR]
Nedelle Torrisi / Julia Holter / Ramona Gonzalez / Cole M.G.N. – Condemnation
A bit of a solemn record. This charity 7″ is a release for the memory of film director, musician, and artist Travis Peterson. Peterson has done music videos for the 3 ladies on the collaboration track, as well as Ariel Pink, Glass Candy and many others. Depeche Mode was one of Peterson’s favorite bands. According to Domino records, Holter, Gonzalez, Torrisi and M.G.N said: “Aside from being an authentic and talented artist and collaborator, Travis was a great friend beloved by many in Los Angeles and around the world. Known for his infectious laugh, sense of mischief, and passion for art, music, and architecture, Travis was simply a pleasure to be around. We hope you will check out a link to some of his work.” Condemnation comes out of Domino Records Sept 15th. Click here to see Peterson’s brilliant video for Nedelle’s Don’t Play Dumb. Rest in peace.
[THE SINGLES]
The Marías – I Don’t Know You
I honestly do not know too much about the Marías, other than the fact that I love their single. I am really looking forward to hearing more from them. They just recorded at Barefoot Studio in Hollywood July 18th according to their blog, so hopefully we’ll have more material soon. Their sound is so smooth and sexy! I saw them in LA at their Freehand Hotel residency. I can’t wait to hear more! I Don’t Know You is available via Soundcloud and other streaming services.
[WORTH A RESPIN]
The Big Moon – Love in the 4th Dimension

Wow oh wow. I love The Big Moon. There I said it. I saw them on their tour with Marika Hackman (also wonderful, played her new record on my second show when I got it early) and it was epic. Their thrilling and highly entertaining live performance is on par with early 70s rock/punk theatrics. If you have a chance to see them live, you should definitely take it! And, let’s not forget this amazing debut album is on the short list for the Mercury Prize! It’s joined the ranks of Alt-J, Ed Sheeran, Glass Animals, Sampha, and the XX amongst others! I can not stop gushing about this band, how down to earth they are, and how awesome they are live. Love in the 4th Dimension was released via Fiction Records April 7th, 2017.
[THE BREAKS]
IS TROPICAL – P.S. We Love You
I fell in love with IS TROPICAL when I first saw the music video for The Greeks. Then IS TROPICAL released an album of remixes from their 2011 album Native To. This includes several artists like Juveniles, Moonlight Matters, Bretonlabs, Database, and others! The grooves and beats varied from chill to dance. It’s a great album to dig on. P.S. We Love You was released May 22nd, 2012.
