This week on Melody in Mayhem host, Dogeye, features an interview with Colleen (aka Cécile Schott) to talk about her new album, A flame my love, a frequency – out now on Thrill Jockey and her upcoming show, this Tuesday, November 14th at the Mothlight (www.themothlight.com).
Cécile Schott’s career trajectory as Colleen has been unpredictable at best. She’s taken a six yr. hiatus, focused on samples, then to singing and now to a blend of “pocket synth’s” and voice on album number seven. Regardless, she seems to be one of the most honest working artists to date who’s music has a rare timeless quality to it.
What has remained a constant is her arpeggiated patterns that lend a lilt to even the darkest of subject matter. Inspired by the 2015 terrorist shootings in Paris this darkly beautiful album lightly walks between the concept of life and death and how everything as we now it can change in a blink.
