We’ve been fortunate to have two awesome interns helping us in our communications/marketing efforts. Cassie Glase (at left in the picture) is studying mass communications at UNC Asheville, and Scottie Hill is studying management at UNC Asheville. Thanks to both for all their efforts so far!
Cassie: “I wasn’t totally sure what I’d be getting into when I accepted the marketing internship that Asheville FM offered me, but interning with the station has been an altogether positive experience that I’m very grateful for.Asheville FM represents the city in the best possible way for me. The station is full of unique, diverse people who all share a similar passion for community radio. Everyone contributes to the betterment of the station in some way. It’s been awesome seeing so many people in and out of the building each time using their individual talents to keep the station thriving.
As an intern, I’ve been able to work directly with multiple members of theAsheville FM team and do hands-on work for several promotional projects. The stereotype of an intern taking coffee orders most definitely doesn’t apply to interning with this station! My ideas are actually listened to (thanks, Clark!), and anything is up for discussion. Mostly though, I’ve been happy to support work that’s actually meaningful. Through listening in on several meetings and working firsthand within the station, I know for a fact they’re committed to their goal of connecting diverse groups and supporting the local economy of ideas. I don’t know where I’ll end up in the future, butAsheville FM has been a great example for me of the kind of organization I’d like to work for!”
Scottie: “Interning at the station has provided me with an abundance of inspiration. I was eager to start on projects right away but have learned that spending quality time planning and analyzing the correct steps to get to the end goal is vital. The community at Asheville FM has been a conducive environment for me to make mistakes and learn from them pushing me to do work I have not been able to do before.
I’ve been able to work directly and indirectly with wonderful individuals involved with Asheville FM. I feel that my favorite part of being a marketing intern is the project I am working on day and night (“Hip Hop FM”). Each day I wake up feeling grateful for this opportunity to combine multiple passions into a multimedia story about hip hop in Asheville. Stay tuned, there’s more to come!”
