We here at Asheville FM are powered almost exclusively by volunteers. To show our appreciation for the people who donate so much time and energy, we like to recognize every quarter a volunteer who has gone above and beyond.
This time, it’s DJ Airon, host of My So-Called Radio Show and the station’s associate music director. Here’s what he had to say…
As one who loves sharing music with others, being associate music director for our community radio station 103.3 Asheville FM in 2018 has been a true dream for me. I am humbled and honored to be named Volunteer of the Quarter, especially since there so many volunteers who also deserve such a distinction.
I would like to give props to our Music department genre directors for keeping it diverse, innovative, and interesting: Jazz director Jonathan, World Music director P-Funk, Hip Hop director Donovan Quixote, and Experimental Music director Dogeye.
Many thanks to the album review writers of the Music dept., who are instrumental in parsing and describing the new, old, and local music we add to our music library every week: Sarah B., Dr. Hyena, Jaybird, Joey Books, DJ Lady D, Ernesto, Matt the Free Range DJ, Jake Y., Kathryn W., Daniel A., J. Lenderman, Corey P., Sarah P., Ben Herring, Steven Howard, and Jess Speer. (If anyone else would like to review albums, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for details)
Much appreciation to every Asheville FM DJ and radio show host as well as News director Emma Hutchens and the intrepid News Hour team, correspondents and guests. Thanks to the Programming department for planning our ever-expanding radio show schedule.
Special thanks to Music librarian Margaret C. as well as Avel, Cyprian, Randy, Kirk, Mike H., Edward R., DJ Kutzu, DJ Smittymon, Greg Lyon, Jeff Mason, Julietbird, Ryan D., and all AFM construction crew, technicians, coordinators for their amazing work getting our new Studio A in gear and operational.
Mucho gracias to Volunteer coordinator Cat Ashe who also, as office manager, keeps the station supplied with necessities. Thanks to all interns and recent volunteer trainees and instructors. Thanks to Clark Aycock for previous service.
Thanks to General Manager KP for checking mysterious voice-mails, making tough phone calls, opening treacherous utility bills, and fielding random emails. Thanks to our Underwriting account execs.
Thanks to all the volunteers who take part in our community outreach. They table and promote at public events in cold and heat, rain and sleet, to tell passersby about our radio station.
Thanks to Dave and Stacy for assembling AFM’s daily events calendar. Thanks to the ticket giveaway Promotions department and all the Asheville music venues and movie houses that work with us to get listeners to their events.
Special historical thanks to Kim Roney and all the original Asheville FM founding volunteers for establishing our community radio station several years ago.
Thank you, Kama and our Board of Directors, all our donors (including food & drink), supporters, underwriters, and Friends of Community Radio.
Thank you to all ears listening to Asheville FM.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone during our Spring fund drive, which runs from April 28 through May 4.
