On March 31, Salvage Station hosted well-known, rapper, producer and entrepreneur Lupe Fiasco. The show kicked off with local rap duo FTO (Free The Optimus), who have regularly appeared on Slay the Mic. As the night progressed it was beautiful to watch the large, open venue fill with a mixture of young and old folks ready to get down at the sold-out show!
Lupe Fiasco has received 12 Grammy nominations and won one Grammy Award for “Daydreamin,” featuring Jill Scott. After the success of his debut album, Food & Liquor (2006), Lupe has released six acclaimed studio albums. With a trilogy of albums set for 2018 and beyond, Lupe is showcasing a lot in his creative peak as an artist.
He also works actively as co-founder and co-owner of multiple community initiatives driven to provide opportunities and creative discourse in underprivileged and impoverished communities.
During the show, Lupe made a point of interacting with the crowd, at one point taking a front-row photographer’s camera to take photos of fans, and later he cut the music to give the attendees an a capella shot at singing his hit “Superstar.” Lupe scattered his big hits and kept the crowd hyped all night long.
In the midst of a two-night run in Asheville, Lupe is stepping back into the show game by choosing local, smaller venues that provide an intimate means of connecting with fans.
Much thanks to Salvage Station for providing us tickets to this show.
