    About the Show

This past weekend marked the 50th anniversary of the Midwest’s first full-fledged, outdoor rock festival, “Sound Storm.”  Produced by Golden Freak Enterprises, it happened Friday, April 24 – Sunday, April 26, 1970 on the farm of Mrs. Irene York near the village of Poynette, Wisconsin, just north of Madison. The setting, a natural amphitheater, and unseasonably warm weather combined to make conditions nearly perfect for a festival that attracted 30,000 “hippies” who came to enjoy the sunshine and some very fine music by the Grateful Dead, Rotary Connection, Baby Huey & the Babysitters, Crow, Mason Proffit, Illinois Speed Press, and many more local, regional, and national acts. Join me, Joey Books, for ‘Life Out of Tunes’ today, Monday at 12:00 noon Eastern (11:00 am Central) as I try to restore my faded memory of this auspicious musical event I attended fifty freakin’ years ago! I’ll be spinning tunes from many of the artists billed on the promotional flyer, including a few of those more obscure.  Peace!

Asheville FM supports the recent stay-at-home order and takes social distancing precautions seriously. To that end, Life Out of Tunes has undergone a necessary schedule change, now broadcasting and streaming from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm on Mondays. Same day, earlier time, and now expanded to three full hours! I’ll be pre-recording my show weekly from home and maintaining the same high-quality music programming you’ve come to expect on Asheville FM.
